they dont call him anything, but when a girl hooks up with a lot of guys they call her a sl*t, whore, or a hoe. And if a guy cheats on a girl, they call him a player, which isnt a bad thing, but when a girl cheats on a guy they call her a sl*t?

I'll give you some reasons why below that are from a developmental perspective, but essentially, the primary reasons why are (1) male sexism which treats women as less than men, and (2) the difference between how men and women view sex.





Anthropologically and historically, almost all societies have been patriarchal, as in male dominated, and polygamy was widespread in ancient times (and is still practiced today in 3rd world countries).





From an evolutionary standpoint, the survival of any species has always been dependent upon how many progeny you could produce and raise to adulthood, so since it takes 9 months for one woman to produce one child, it makes sense in this regard for men to seek out as many females to bear their offspring.





Now, all that crap aside, the bottom line is that for men and women view sex entirely differently (even though there are some crossovers). For most (not all) men, sex is a right of passage, and for some, the more partners one has, the more of a "stud" he is considered to be by his peers (and, oddly enough, by other women). He sees each sexual partner as a kind of conquest, and since going off and killing an animal or another human in battle is not practiced to prove oneself (thank God), sexual conquest has replaced the former.





Women, on the other hand, see sex as an emotional bond, as the ultimate gift that they can give a man, and when they sleep with a man (and it is satisfying enough), they will not go run off to find another one to bed. The name of the game is permanence: women usually look for that long-term relationship in which love is shared.





Now, if a woman goes from man to man just to have sex with them, then that behavior flies in the face of everything a woman is assumed to do, according to what I just said above. So, if she sleeps with a lot of guys then there cannot be any love involved, and if love and a long-term emotional bond are not the payoffs, then the payoff has to be materialistic in nature.





Therefore, if a woman has sex with a man for materialistic reasons, then that is the operational definition of "whore." The term, "sl*t," came into practice to describe women who indiscriminantly sleep with men -- the key word here being indiscriminant because women are usually very picky when it comes to picking a guy which whom to have sex.
