D-ring bit with hooks?

i was looking at a d-ring bit with hooks for showing my FQH gelding in local/4h/open shows. it that a good bit? can i show in it or would i get DQed using it? or should i use a kimberwicke. the reason i was looking at these is because they are alot less expencive than kimberwickes and they would give me some leverage. plus my horse likes a bit with a little more leverage. they have them at www.sstack.com in the english bit section.

D-ring bit with hooks?
kimberwicks arent that expensive.
Reply:No you can't get DQed for using one. I'd look for a Myler. That's what I use on my horse. He really likes it. I will say that they are expensive though.
Reply:The 'hooks' that you are talking about, i beleive are lifters. they do give you more leverage, but in the english world; local or rated, bits with lifters are not permitted. A good bit to use that i have always liked is a Myler with a twist. It can be very soft, or when needed you have the leverage. A good bit is not going to be cheap, but they are tons better than inexpensive ones. This is a link to the site of the one that i use.

Reply:I have a Kimberwicke and love it for my horse! She doesn't like snaffles and other bits like that, she needs leverage like your horse! On the website you gave in your question, the Kimberwicks are actually on sale for $31 and $28, which I think is a good price, also the D-Ring bit with hooks is for sale for $80, so I'd buy the Kimberwick. You shouldn't get DQed for a D-Ring with hooks because it isn't like a really severe or really harsh bit, I think you should be fine with it, but I would personally recon mend the Kimberwicks because of how nice they work on my stubborn mare!

EDIT: I wouldn't use the bit that Megan C suggests, it won't do what you want it to. It won't give you leverage and I personally don't think it's for your horse from what you've described. It's for a light headed more easy-going horse.
Reply:why dont you just use a snaffle?
