Has anyone used anchor hooks to hang pictures?

If so, what were the pros and cons of using the hooks instead of pounding nails in the wall?

I think the Hercules hooks are great. I have used them to hang photos and small framed mirrors. I wouldn't exceed the recommended weight limit on them, or it might not turn out very well. Also, the tiny hole it leaves can easily be filled with spackle or even a small amount of white toothpaste when you remove the hook ( this is popular for students and renters).
Reply:Were you talking about those "Herculese Hooks"? If so, I have used them %26amp; they are great. I have hung several shadow boxes with native american artifacts in them. The boxes are kind of heavy %26amp; I haven't had any problems. I've also used them to hang a heavy mirror, works great. I would recommend them any time.
Reply:they work great. there easy to use that is the pro's. the con's are a hole in your wall. just be sure to follow the instructions. you did not state what kind of anchors they are as there are several types of anchor hooks. some use the type where you tap to very fine nails into plaster or wall board. other types use anchors which requires pre-drilling of holes however they are considerably stronger. any other questions, shoot me an email and i will help you out. :-)
Reply:They give you versatility because you don't have to hit a wall stud, you can go into sheetrock alone.





They do require a slightly bigger hole for the anchor, though.





I recommend having some around for if you have to use them, otherwise use screws, then nails, whenever possible. ;)

A nail pounded into drywall,without being anchored in the wall stud, has very little sheer strength.Finding the stud becomes important, even necessary, for hanging heavy objects. The options to this include toggle bolts, drywall augers, hollow-wall anchors and the like. These can be used if the stud does not happen to occur where you need the hook.It should be considered the value of the thing being hung, as if you do it poorly, it will if fact fall.
