What is the best way to keep liver on your catfish hooks, besides pantyhose?

I hate using pantyhose to keep liver on, it's a pain! I use treble hooks occasionally, but they tend to end up stuck more times than not. So anybody have any original ideas? I personally have lost sleep to this dilemma.

What is the best way to keep liver on your catfish hooks, besides pantyhose?
a product called "Spider Thread". you can buy it at most sporting goods stores. it's cheap and works very well.

it's like a very fine rubber line but breaks easily so you don't need scissors. wrap it around the bait and hook and because it stretches it will hold it in place. i use it on salmon and steehead roe as well as ghost shrimp. it takes netting right out of the equation.

good luck and have a blast!
Reply:try the mustad liver or double livebait hook in several sizes!

the liver hook has the pin!
Reply:the cheapest and easiest way is to go to walmart and buy a spool of sewing thread(red in color).

i use a plain catfish hook,no trebbles.

anyway put the liver on the hook and wrap about 6-10" of string around the liver.not to tight because it will cut the liver.

this works for me...........

good luck
Reply:We don't really have much catfish where I'm from, but my dad has this trick for keeping soft bait on for trout. You take your treble hook and take the spring from a ball point pen and wrap it around the shaft of the hook. That way you can hold soft baits.
Reply:I like to take sponge cut it into about 3/4 inch pieces and soak them in the liver over night. This works good most of the time and when the liver washes out of the sponge you just tear it off and put new on.I have used liver flavored dog food and it worked pretty good also.Buy the canned food with chunks in it.
Reply:Keep the livers cold helps , or stick with using a treble hook, wrap the liver around the shank of the hook and slide it down over all 3 hook points
Reply:You may want ta' go with a spawn sack set-up with wedding vail material (hardier material than nylons) I use it for drift fishin' Steelhead %26amp; Salmon. Go to your search bar,

"surf" the web for Salmon or Steelhead egg (roe) sacks and am sure you'll find a site that explains how ta' tie them up. Very simple procedure, also material comes in different colors. Ha', I ain't guaranteein' you'll find the color of liver though, just improvise ; ) ... Ya' might also consider tyin' up a bunch of them, puttin' them under ice, so come ready to rig up they be right there...
Reply:First off, start using beef liver rather than chicken livers. Beef liver is much more durable. Also Check these hooks out. I would suggest size 6...........http://www.jrwfishing.com/gang_hooks.asp
