Fishing Question. How do I tie hooks directly to line?

I went fishing last week at our local pier. I noticed the guy next to us had 5 hooks on his line. All 5 hooks were tied directly to his line with a weight at the bottom. What%26#039;s the name of that setup or how can I set my line like that. (I didn%26#039;t get a chance to ask him).

They were not the sabiki setup.

thanks in advance

Fishing Question. How do I tie hooks directly to line?
I use a fishing knot that comes from a paper out of a box of new line. Here is a site that shows how to tie many knots
Reply:Start tying way up the line, move down a bit, tie another, repeat. Hope that helps.
Reply:Don%26#039;t know what set-up the gentlemen had, but ya%26#039; can use what is called a %26quot;Dropper Loop%26quot;. Link below will show ya%26#039; how to tie and it be animated to make it easier. Site has a lot of other type knots for fishin%26#039; along with a slew of others that may come in handy for other needs. Not sure if this%26#039;ll help, but you%26#039;ll be gettin%26#039; other Answers ppl responses that%26#039;ll steer you in the direction ;)...

Reply:You can do a line to line or a swivel
Reply:you could try snelling the hooks on at different spots on your line like a huge crawler harness. GOOD LUCK and KEEP FISHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...
Reply:I used a hook system. EAch hook coms on it%26#039;s own lanyard, so each of them has a loop at the end. Place all the loops into the hook of the line and add the weight to it.

A quick google search tells me that this is called using a FISHING LEADER system.

What kind of hooks are used to catch northerns and walleyes without having to put live bait on it?

I want to go northern or walleye fishing today but I dont have any live bait and I cant get any for a little bit yet because my dad has to get it and he is to busy to fish right now. Anyways, is there any hooks that I can use that dont require live bait on them that will still catch a northern or walleye?

What kind of hooks are used to catch northerns and walleyes without having to put live bait on it?
Try a leadhead jig or a drop shot rigged with a Berkley Gulp minnow. Pro walleye anglers all use this bait.
Reply:a jighead with a plastic worm will work
Reply:For walleye, jigheads with plastic bodies instead of live bait. For pike try big flashy spoons. Also try spinners. Pike really like them, and walleye.

Greatest Bridges/Intros/Hooks/Breaks/So...

I need some new material, so what are some of the greatest rock or alternative Bridges/Intros/Hooks/Breaks/Solos that I could learn for the guitar here? give me some variety, I already know GNR/ACDC and other obvious legends, so anything I%26#039;m unaware of, hit me with it.

Greatest Bridges/Intros/Hooks/Breaks/So...
Mark Tremonti from Alter Bridge is pretty awesome. Check out some of Alter Bridge%26#039;s stuff and even old Creed songs.

If you want to work on breakdowns, check out Norma Jean%26#039;s album Bless The Martyr, Kiss The Child. It%26#039;s a lot heavier than just rock, but you could learn a lot from them.

And if you really want a challenge, try stuff by Between The Buried and Me. Their guitarists are amazing and they write very complex music. It would be good practice, even if it%26#039;s not the kind of music you want to play.

Wacky Rigged worm hooks?

what kind of hooks should i use to make a worm Wacky?

Wacky Rigged worm hooks?
I just use a 1/0 EWG (extra wide gap) worm hook.

They do make %26quot; O%26quot; rigs and a tool to put them over your bait so you get more strikes per bait.
Reply:Asked for in my shops was the owner mosquito hook in size 4 to 6,Circle hooks(eagle claw lightwire) in size 2 to 6 and a few others but they were mainly short shank style hooks!
Reply:You can use any type of worm hook that you have in your box or bag. Due to the fact that the hook is exposed when you rig it wacky.

If you are fishing around alot of cover I would suggest using a hook it is called a Pork-O hook it has a wire weed guard that hooks to the barb of the hook. Great hook for wacky rigging.

Good Luck

What bowling ball hooks more?

So im about to buy a new bowling ball and i need something that hooks angularly, so what should i get? (I%26#039;ve been looking at the Fury or the Twisted Fury)

What bowling ball hooks more?
It%26#039;s more than which ball. I%26#039;ve been bowling all my life and throwing a hook ball for 23 years. I%26#039;m a regular league bowler and bowl at least 3 times per week and hit around a 200 average. Tonight I bowled a 269 - maybe I have a few ideas for you. Technologies change every 10 years or so. But the following list of items have been consistently contributing to the amount of bite/curve a ball can have.

1) Your feet positioning.

2) Your delivery trajectory, speed and mark on the lane.

3) The lane condition.

4) The ball itself.

I%26#039;ll break these down for you.

#1 - Feet positioning. It%26#039;s very important to find and stick with a consistent placement of your feet on the lane. Each lane is different so don%26#039;t be surprised if you change position from lane to lane. But for one individual lane, find your feet position and park there every time. By feet positioning I am referring to the %26quot;Dots%26quot; on the approach position. I%26#039;m a right-handed bowler and on the odd numbered lanes stand 3 boards left of the last dot. On even numbered lanes I stand with my left foot directly on the the last dot. Find your dot-position and use that everytime for a particular lane.

#2 - Ball trajectory, speed and mark on the lane. The name of the game here, like #1 is consistency. You need to find a consistent release on the ball so that your trajectory will be the same every time (speaking of the strike ball - not spares). The speed is also important - the key is try to through your ball the same speed every time. Most importantly mark on the lane. Use the arrows about 1/4 of the way down the bowling lane, find your mark and hit that mark/arrow every time. Consistency.

#3 - Lane condition. This is the main reason why from night-to-night that your feet position and mark on the lane may change. On nights when the lane is wet (recently oiled) the ball is going to slide further before it hooks. These type of conditions are rare unless you bowl early in the morning. Most of the time the lanes are in a varied condition of wet and dry. Usually dry on the outside and wet on the inside. You%26#039;ve got to get a sense of the lane condition to determine your feet positioning and ball mark.

#4 - The ball itself. I recommend Hammer Black Widow. It does a pretty good job of sliding before reacting - just what a bowler needs to attach the strike-zone pocket. It has a wicked hook that can be a beast but can also be the best sounding strike you%26#039;ve ever heard. The key is consistency. Once you%26#039;re standing on your position, throwing and hitting your mark with the accurate speed and delivery - this ball will reward you. It%26#039;s a bit on the expensive side - but I really enjoy taming it. It%26#039;s manageable on somewhat dry lanes but loves wet oil. If the lanes are completely dry - do not use this ball, you%26#039;ll never hit the pocket.

Hope that helps.
Reply:The ball shouldn%26#039;t matter as much as the drilling. A good driller will watch you make a few deliveries then position the holes to the weight block inside the ball. You should carry a couple bo balls, with different hooks, so you can adjust for the lane speed.
Reply:Just purchase the Fury, which is definitely lowering in price now, and adjust the coverstock to fit the lane condition plus have the pro shop drill it exotically for maximum performance. The Twisted Fury has lower hook ability because it%26#039;s between the Fury and Fury Pearl. Hope this helps!

What are the sharpest freshwater fishing hooks out there?

I keep getting bites and bites, and 1-2 out of 5 I miss em. I want to be able to get the sharpest hooks out there, so I don%26#039;t waste my time fishing and missing bites of big fish. I do set the hook around 3 times I jerk and jerk and jerk, and it just doesn%26#039;t work sometimes.

What are the sharpest freshwater fishing hooks out there?
Gamakatsu EWG. Is my favorite because they are sharp and strong.

http://www.gamakatsu.nl/html/

But the hook that is claimed to be the %26quot;Worlds Sharpest Fishook%26quot; is the Daiichi hook.

http://www.daiichihooks.com/

There is no substitute for quality sharp hooks.

Good Fishing!
Reply:more info needed....

what species are you normally fishing for?

what size/type of hook do you normally use?

Basically what setup are you normally using?

How you are fishing makes a difference too, slack line when setting the hook? limber or stiff fishing pole?

Most freshwater fish only need moderate single hook on a tight line. a sharp hook is only one aspect of gaining a higher percentage of hook ups.

chemically sharpend hooks are the sharpest out of the package. but just about any hook can be sharpened as needed on the water...carry a sharpening stone.
Reply:It probably is not the hooks, as much as it would be that you need to keep your rod tip low,.... keep your line to the hook with no slack in it, (requires attention to detail), and being able to concentrate on where your line goes under the water, and then............when you see something....... raise the rod tip quickly and set the hook
Reply:I use these Gamakatsu hooks for rigging up plastic worms and they are sharp.http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores...
Reply:Owner hooks , then Gamagatsu is a real close second

what are ya fishing for ? And are you using soft plastics? If your using soft plastic baits such as worms , make sure your hook gap is wide enough and make sure you have a heavy action rod
Reply:The ones you sharpen yourself.

Production lines get them pretty sharp but you can get any hook sharper yourself................
Reply:Don%26#039;t know if they be %26quot;the sharpest hooks in the world%26quot; ;), but I use Gamakatsu. Sharpness has a great deal ta%26#039; do with your loosin%26#039; fish, but there%26#039;s a whole lotta%26#039; other reasons for the loss. Better for me ta%26#039; leave that one up for Brandon and or exert, they%26#039;ll be the ones ta%26#039; help you out ~ I can%26#039;t type that fast ;)...
Reply:Honestly it%26#039;s not only about the sharpness of the hook. It%26#039;s really not tough getting the barbed point set properly if we%26#039;ve got the right sized hook and propper striking techniques.

I suggest using two hooks ... if one slips off you%26#039;ve got another.

did u tie the hook properly ...what type of hook eye are you using?

Why are there always lace hooks at the top of walking boots rather than the normal lace "holes"?

I have always wondered what purpose the lace hooks serve, as I find the normal lace %26quot;holes%26quot; much more convenient.

What purpose do the lace hooks have.

Why are there always lace hooks at the top of walking boots rather than the normal lace %26quot;holes%26quot;?
you can tie the laces much tighter with lace hooks. you wouldnt want to loose a boot while walking through wet or marshy ground would you.
Reply:so they are easier to take off or put on
Reply:tightness

and i think also they are like that because of tradition... older boots were taller and you wanted then to be hooked because it was easier to get them on and off
Reply:it enables you to unfasten and fasten the top rows of laces quickly and easily without having to fiddle at poking laces through eye-holes with your cold fingers
Reply:walking boots generally go above the ankle for support when walking. the hooks are so you can easily loosen the laces at the top to enable you to get your feet in and out easily without having to lace up and down through %26quot;normal%26quot; lace holes.
Reply:i reckon they are easier to vary the tightness of laces at the top and they also allow for more movement so the laces can move a lil bit as you bend your ankle. im just guessing tho!!!

What height are curtain pulls(hooks) and tassles supposed to be hung at? They are regular 84" curtains...?

What height are curtain pulls(hooks) and tassles supposed to be hung at? They are regular 84%26quot; curtains...?
I think that you are talking about tiebacks, I usually put them about 36%26quot; from the floor, keeping in line with the outside edge of curtain. but you can do what looks best in your space. There is no set rule anyway I dont think Martha Stewart is coming over !But I do this for a living, and thats the usual height I install the hooks for tiebacks. you can change them if you dont like it , just spackle the hole. or have someone hold them and stand back and look
Reply:36 inches is the rule of thumb.
Reply:It depends how high your window is. I just saw a designer on TV on Monday and he said to make them even with the window sill unless the window goes farther down, about 30inches of the floor, then he suggest to do them a bit lower. But it looked to strange to me. Mine are the same as the window sill. Try it by letting someone hold them and see if the proportion is ok.

Is the wiring harness that hooks into the back of a car stereo a universal connector?

I bought a JVC cd reciever and I%26#039;m dissatisfied with the product, so I%26#039;ve ordered a Pioneer cd reciever and I wanted to know if the wiring harness that hooks into the back of the cd reciever will hook into the back of the Pioneer reciever. I%26#039;ve already hard wired the stereo harness to the factory wiring harness and I want to know if I will have to cut all the connectors to install the new cd player or if I can just plug it in and go.

Thanks

Is the wiring harness that hooks into the back of a car stereo a universal connector?
Your Pioneer radio%26#039;s wire harness will be different than the JVC%26#039;s wire harness. You can reuse the Metra wire harness you purchased to connect to the factory harness. You will need to cut and remove the connections you made for the JVC and reconnect the wire harness for the Pioneer. Just follow the color codes for the Pioneer and the Metra harness one by one to connect them properly. They should be fairly close to the same on both radios. I know the power wires on the Pioneer are usually different than others in the aftermarket world, but the rest should use the standards. Be sure to disconnect the Metra harness from the vehicle before you do any cutting and reconnecting. T.G.P.
Reply:No it%26#039;s not. That depends on the car models %26amp; the company%26#039;s own preferences. For example, Pioneer%26#039;s wiring harness it uses for all pioneers are for chevy%26#039;s, fords %26amp; some other cars except for import cars. You%26#039;ll most likely have to cut the connections off, and install into the new CD player, unless your lucky.

Reply:The JVC receiver harness will not interchange with a Pioneer receiver harness. Some Pioneers will interchange with other Pioneers and some JVCs with other JVCs but they will not interchange cross brands. (And remember i before e except after c.)
Reply:Your first mistake was cutting off the stock harness. You never do this. They make harnesses that plug into your stock car harness that you wire the new radio harness to to make a %26quot;jumper harness%26quot; so when you want to change out the radio, it%26#039;s easier, or if you want to put your stock radio back in to sell the car it%26#039;s easy too.
Reply:nope, but you can buy an adapter that will plug straight into your old plug into your new cd player, no cutting of wires
Reply:no but you can buy any wires ready with plugs out of any good car accesory shop

How do I remove adhesive hooks from the walls without ripping off the paint?

The previous owner here used cheap adhesive hooks and I want to remove them and put up 3M Command hooks that are designed not to damage the paintwork - but how do I get the old ones off without taking the paint with them?

How do I remove adhesive hooks from the walls without ripping off the paint?
Hold an ice cube on them. When they get cold, they will come off easy.
Reply:Many adhesives are moisture activated so applying a little water can help. Heat is another way, but depending on your paint job it can ruin the walls. Also, if you know what kind of adhesive it is, reapplying it or a similar adhesive can loosen it up. Nailpollish and alchohol can also be used, but they also have a high likely hood of causeing discoloration.
Reply:Steam works good.

Then again it depends on the quality of the paint that was used and how it was applied,

Figure it this way, the paint is going to come off, do the best that you can to minimize that until you are ready to re-paint.
Reply:Try a little bit of WD40. You will be pleasantly surprised.
Reply:just pull em off an do the painting again. .simple as that

I am needing to buy 1 1/4%26quot; (has to be white and has to be 1 1/4%26quot;) metal cup hooks in bulk for a project I have. In the retail stores, they have them in packages of 2, 6, or 30 but I need more. I can buy lots of packages of the 30, but have to wait til their next restock shipment to acquire more. I have asked the managers if I could have the name of the wholesalers they buy from but they say that the wholesale companies only sell to them. I%26#039;ve looked online and all I can find are the %26quot;packages%26quot; of 2-30 and the cost of each hook is expensive. I was just wondering if someone knew where I could buy hooks in online in bulk or by the pound at a less expensive cost each. Gas to run around store to store is costing too much and I would rather place orders online. I at least would like to buy 500-1000 at a time and paying retail cost of .25 or .50 each when bought in packages just isn%26#039;t feasible for me. U-boat Hooks?

i was watching a movie called %26#039;Below%26#039; in it a destroyer draged hooks to try sink the U-boat did this realy happen in the war or is this just a figment of somones imagination?

U-boat Hooks?
When the Germans first introduced U-boat warfare in WW1 ( 1915) the British Navy ( the US wasn%26#039;t in the war then so it was an all R.N. show) hadn%26#039;t a clue as to what to do........it took a while to develop the depth charge....and even longer to developer an underwater listening gear so you could get an idea of where the bloody thing was to drop the charge)( further aside.at first it was just a listening device to hear the U boats propellers ASDIC from Allied Submarine Detection Investigation Committee....SONAR Sound Navigation and Ranging, which put out a blip of sound that reflected back.....the bleep bleep bleep noise in all the sub movies came much later.....)

so before there were depth charges the Royal Navy had to resort to some desperate improvisations, and yes, dragging hooks to grab a sub was one of them. Not very successful as you can imagine. Less successful was a scheme where two guys in a motor launch would chase a periscope; one guy would put a hood over it, the second would smash it with a hammer.

Oh,a nd by the way.as submerged torpedo shooter, the German U-boat force reduced England to 6 weeks of food as of Jan 1 1917 and damn near won the war for the Kaiser.
Reply:The Allies attempted to determine how to sink U-boats and developed the depth charge. It was, however, the introduction of the convoy system that defeated the U-boat. The World War I U-boat was really a surfacre vessel that could sumbmerge. Against esorted convoys, World war I era U-boats had little chance of success.
Reply:Devices called explosive paravanes were tried as an early Anti-Submarine tactic. Contact-fused explosive charges were rigged with paravanes which made them tow at about a 20-30 degree angle from the destroyer%26#039;s stern and at various depths, according to how much cable was let out. If a cable made contact with a submerged submarine, the cable would pull the charge to the sub and detonate it. This device was extremely unpopular with destroyer captains, who did not relish the idea of maneuvering while towing charges on cables that could easily become entangled with his own ship%26#039;s screws and/or rudder.
Reply:real...
Reply:i would say a figment

It would have helped to know where in the world you are, but check with companies like yours. Anyone who has cranes or lifting rigs could use them. Who did you buy yours from? Maybe they will take them back. Check with a marine chandler.

Brazilian Jiu-jitsu, heel hooks are useless?

I%26#039;v only been training in BJJ for less than two months so for about 6 hours a week so I%26#039;m far from knowledgable as a mere white belt but today I was rolling with my friend who is a blue belt and I had a chance to go for a heel hook and nothing happened.....this occured twice throughout the session, are heel hooks generally hit and miss or am I just screwing it up completely?

Brazilian Jiu-jitsu, heel hooks are useless?
you%26#039;re screwing it up completely, I did about 2 months of catch wrestling several years ago, so I am familiar with all sorts of leg locks, then as a white in bjj I was able to sub browns with a heel hook frequently(most bjj%26#039;ers defend their legs horribly if you have experience with leg locks). however some people(very few) have very flexible ankles and aren%26#039;t affected by them, but these people are slightly less common than people who are unaffected by kimuras and americana%26#039;s(yes such people really do exist).

the other trick with the heel hook is that it is doing damage before it starts to hurt and in some people it goes directly from not feeling anything to busted knee, which is why it is not allowed in most white belt competitions, check to see if the blue belt is walking funny the next day
Reply:If you are applying the heel hook twisting then leaning backwards you are defeating your purpose.Put it on twist the ankle and lean your upper body in the direction of the twist sideways not backwards.
Reply:Your not putting the locks on correctly

It%26#039;s a very novice move to go for leg locks (heel hooks, ankle locks, knee bars, etc), you%26#039;ll notice that the higher ranks generally don%26#039;t go for them because:

you have to give up your position so much to put them on

you are very vulnerable to getting punched with most of them with little to defend yourself with

these types of lock will tap a guy out in the dojo who has to work the next day and isn%26#039;t interested damaging his knee, so he%26#039;ll tap earlier than most locks, whereas in a tourney or pro fight you%26#039;ll find leg moves work alot less.

Leg locks are like the guillotine, all the white belts are always trying to put them on people and when you gain experience you%26#039;ll move away from them.

Ken Shamrock was a leg lock specialist but now hes just the butt of many people%26#039;s awful fighter jokes.
Reply:You%26#039;re screwing it up, done properly it tears up the knee.

It is also a technique that you should probably not be doing at this point, and should also have a good deal of control with. In training this is not one you want to take to a tap as often the difference between pain and 6 months recovery time is very small. Risk of serious injury is just too high.

They are also not allowed in BJJ competition at your level, anyways.
Reply:the heel hook is a devastating hold...most likely, you may be applying it incorrectly...when applying a heel hook, it only takes a slight twist to feel the pain...the hold causes severe damage from the ankle to the knee even with someone with very flexible ankles, and that is why it is not allowed in competition. remember that you need to secure the leg, or your opponent will just turn and twist with it, and it will have no effect on him...the leg must remain stable and oh man will it hurt...i%26#039;ve seen it many times in professional mma fights where someone will try a heel hook with an opponent who%26#039;s stading up...that is very sloppy cause their is no control over the leg so just remember to wrap your legs around his, secure his leg and foot, and start applying the pressure...oh and instead of trying it only while sparring, try just going through the move before sparring...bet it%26#039;ll hurt then and he%26#039;ll correct whatever you%26#039;re doing wrong cause since he%26#039;s a blue belt he should be trying to help those of lower rankings perfect their technique and not just abuse it and take advantage of it during sparring sessions!
Reply:You must be doing it incorrectly.

Ken Shamrock finished several early UFC fights with Heel Hooks.

More recently Ryo Chonan beat Anderson Silva with a ridiculous flying scissor into a heel hook.

Rusty fish-hooks?

What%26#039;s a good way to prevent fish-hooks from rusting between fishing trips?

Rusty fish-hooks?
buying good quallity hooks does help,as well as all the info you got here. Also,as I found out recently,is a good measure to ,every time you go fishing ,pull a few meters off the reel line and throw away,as that gets rotten too,and you would hate to lose a good catch cose of a few meters of rotten line.
Reply:haha thank you too, happy fishing... Report It

Reply:Dont touch them with wet hands and rinse them in fresh water after you are done fishing.
Reply:A few things and that is buy good hooks that wont rust i like mustad for this and dry them when they come out of the water and keep them in a dry place, i know of some people who use talcum powder to stop this but i don%26#039;t like this method as it leaves a mess. Also replace your hooks after about every two sessions.
Reply:Only take along enough hooks for your trip. I generally buy hooks in packs of 50-100, and then put 10 or so of each size into the tackle box at a time. If a drop of salt water gets into the hook bag or box (easily possible while fishing) it can rust up everything in there in a few days.

When you get home, dry the hooks (as others have stated). I%26#039;ve never used oil on hooks, as I think the smell might prevent fish from biting).

I haven%26#039;t had any problems with fresh water rusting hooks, but then I generally fish artificials in fresh water and they tend to come with higher quality hooks, plus fresh water isn%26#039;t nearly as corrosive as salt water.
Reply:Get you some small zip lock bags. Lot of fish hooks come in them now days. Between fishing trips,, be sure you keep them in a dry place. After fishing,, I bring my tackle box in the house where it stays dry. Other than that,, stainless hooks.
Reply:Why? Rusty fish hooks can be very pleasurable and degrading.
Reply:Rayq is absolutely right. Rinse your gear, all of it. I lay mine on a paper towel to dry then re-pack it in containers that are dry. Always sharpen your hooks before you go to use them again too.
Reply:I have never dried my hooks and have NEVER had any rust on me. I guess maybe buy good quality hooks? Replace them often? I don%26#039;t know what to say, as it has never happended to me.
Reply:rinse them in fresh water after use
Reply:Vinegar will remove rust. I know, I%26#039;ve tried it.
Reply:Looks like you already got some good answers. ;)

Have a great new years!

-Fishingidiot-
Reply:I keep mine in a sealed bag, but my barbless hooks came in a slight film of oil and they have never gone rusty. Thus, a few drops of oil will surely do no harm and a lot of good where rust is concerned.
Reply:When i buy new hooks, i put them in empty pill ( medicine ) bottles.

Each time i go fishing, i put on new hooks.

hooks won%26#039;t rust, if they are kept dry
Reply:Keep a couple dessicant bags in your tacklebox(the little bags that come with electronic equip. that warn you not to eat them)..if you dont have those..try a small cloth bagful of rice..it will act as a dessicant..airdry your hooks before you store them.
Reply:make sure they are clean and dry after using---then store them in a plastic box or a ziploc bag...

Broke one of the hooks for the vertical blinds??

i was opening the vertical blinds which leads to my backyard when one of the hooks broke. Its the hook that holds each blind piece together. How should i fix it? plz need help

Broke one of the hooks for the vertical blinds??
You should be able to repair this for just a couple of dollars. I will list 2 sources below where you can purchase it. The item you want to purchase is called a %26quot;vane saver%26quot; and is a small metal hook that reinforces the hole that attaches to the hook. If this is not the right piece, these sources will be able to help you.
Reply:Find the part at the link below and install it.
Reply:If it%26#039;s plastic then you might try superglue (usual warnings about using superglue apply), otherwise try a local bind making company - they might sell you a replacement part.

Should heel hooks be legal in jujitsu comps?

i hear in alot of jujitsu comps heel hooks arent allowed because of the amount of time it take to do damage with them(which is short)

i was wondering what your opinion is of this

Should heel hooks be legal in jujitsu comps?
To my knowledge all the Jujitsu comps I have been in, Heelhooks are allowed but not an Novice level. You have to be interemediate or advanced.

Mind you if this is a new change I am unaware of it, but normally below blue belt heelhooks aren%26#039;t allowed but above it they are.

At least to the best of my knowledge.

I agree very much with that sort of ruleset, heelhooks are probably one of the most damaging submissions there are.

Mainly because you don%26#039;t really feel the pressure like you do with armbars and other joint locks.

So obviously not only do you want a more experienced person applying them, (as to not do damage by putting it on harder than necessary) but also an experienced person on the receiving end to realize that they are caught and tap. Many inexperienced persons wouldn%26#039;t know that they are caught in the heel hook until things started popping.

It%26#039;s one of the reasons we don%26#039;t want our inexperienced guys trying heel hooks out on each other and we generally discourage teaching them it until they are a little bit more advanced.

Just my two cents...

Shooters: I disagree with you, properly applied heel hooks have very little pain involved until injury. There is a slight pressure, you don%26#039;t get a lot of pain involved, normally in a heelhook once it starts hurting is when something is already being damaged. A heel hook is very different than a straight knee bar, or any kind of elbow, shoulder, ankle, or wrist lock.

Because of the twisting motion against the knee, you only get pressure instead of pain as the knee is meant some form of rotation (nerve endings aren%26#039;t pinched as they are in hyperextensions that you see with most other joint locks) A heel hooks is one of the very few joint locks that does not rely on hyperextension, it damages the ligaments before the joint is affected. Hence the pressure you feels is the ligaments being stretched, pain comes upon ligament injury, and it happens before any damage to the joint itself.

It is very different than other joint locks, many people get injured from heel hooks not from stubbornness, but from simply not knowing any better, and tapping once they feel the pain. At that point it is too late and ligament damage has already occurred.
Reply:Injurys are usually due to idiots who refuse to submit and try to tough it out so the person applying the heel hook torques it even more .You will notice the pros know when they are beaten and can%26#039;t escape and dont let it go that far.

Properly applied the pain is instant and excruciating and immobilizing .All clues that your best move is to tap out.
Reply:No. They are a part of the submission moves like any other. If you get caught in a heel hook, you made a big mistake by leaving yourself open. If are a true expert, spin and yank your way out.

The same can be said about the potential damage of a kimora...
Reply:they are only illegal in novice and beginner divisions. I think thats the way it should be. The guys that are green to the sport should really be limited on how hurt they can get. If new guys were getting hurt they would be more likely to quit early instead of going further and enjoying the sport more.

I popped a guys ankle at a NAGA before and felt extremely bad about it but it comes with the territory. Ive you are in the intermediate or advanced levels you should know what you are getting yourself into by that point. I don%26#039;t like hurting people nor do i like getting hurt but i understand it can happen.
Reply:They should only be allowed in %26quot;full%26quot; contact events. By that, I mean that everyone in the ring knows that there is a very real possibility of becomming seriously injured or even killed in the match.
Reply:The reason they are not allowed is because you can quickly injure (and maybe cripple if you are not careful) your opponent.

I need help finding a manufacturer of Japanese fly fishing hooks.?

I need help finding a manufacturer of Japanese fly fishing hooks. I%26#039;ve tried all the websites like tradekey.com, alibaba.com and ec21.com - I%26#039;ve had numerous Chinese companies send me crap for samples. I need quality, and quality is Japanese or Korean fly fishing hooks. Does anyone know of any Japanese hook manufacturers. Gamakatsu, Dai Riki and Daiichi are typical Japanese hook names, but who manufacturers these hooks. I need that info - email, website, something.

I need help finding a manufacturer of Japanese fly fishing hooks.?
Well I am not sure what your looking for but here is soem random fly hook produsers you can get their name off this following paragraph and do a search on them

present there are many hooks from many foreign producers available, often in similar shapes on strong, middle strong or gentle wire. We can mentioned the Japanese hooks Kamasan B 100, made of gentle wire in bronze and gold collor and sizes 10, 12, 14, or strenghten version Kamasan B 110. Other gammarus hooks are produced by the Japanese company Snake in cooperation with Jiri Klima company. SNK 100 hooks are made of stronger wire, in bronze colour and in sizes 6 – 18. The more gently wire is marked SNK 200 and hooks are in sizes 8 – 14.

Other Japanese marks are e.g. Maruto hooks. In streghten version 7245 are available in our country in bronze colour and in sizes 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, or with middle strong wire under the number 7248 in sizes 10, 12, 14. Other Japanese hooks are Hayabusha and for gammarus hooks again are designed heavier version 387 and lighter hook with marking 384. Those hooks you can get in bronze, black nickel, gold and red colours, sizes 8 – 18.

The japanese hooks from Tiemco company (TMC) are very popular but the price is at least double in comparison with other makes. Famous is the shape TMC 2487 G in gold colour and sizes 10 – 20. Also its barbless version – TMC 2487 BL in bronze version and same sizes or heavier version – TMC 2457. To those hooks can be added also version with straight eyes, TMC 2488 in sizes 10 – 20 or strenghten type TMC/TRP-SP 2499 BL with unique sharp spear (Spearpoint) on the top of this bronze barbless hook.

Out of the other European producers of hooks, we can mention the Austrian company Rossler and classical hook Admiral 4007/2 in bronze version and in sizes 8 – 18 or golden hook 4007/3 G which is available in sizes 10, 12, 14, 16. Mustad company from Norway has a long tradition in hook production as well, though for our purpose their products are not the best possibility. C068 are heavy and extra short hooks in sizes 6 – 22 or shorter hook C495 made of standard wire, straight eyed and small barb (6 – 18). The French company VMC produces two types of suitable hooks with barbs. VMC 7075 is available in sizes 12 – 18, bronze, gold and red colour and VMC 9202 in sizes 8 – 14 and bronze or gold colour.

What Size Hooks For Which Fish?

Does anyone have a simple table/rough guide to show the size of hooks generally used for different types of fish

What Size Hooks For Which Fish?
I%26#039;ve found that the hook size is more dependent on the bait size than the size of the fish targeted. A hook which is too big will prevent the fish from biting, while a hook which is too small can get jammed up by the bait, so even if you%26#039;re bit, you won%26#039;t hook the fish.

Examples: I sometimes fish for kelp bass (generally 18-24 inches in length, 3-5 pounds) using mackerel of 8-10 inches long on a 3/0 to 5/0 hook. With a smaller hook, I miss too many strikes. When fishing for the same fish with 3-inch anchovies, I use a hook as small as a #6. Bigger hooks won%26#039;t get as many bites with the small baits.

On the other hand, several years ago we got into a bite on 40-60+ pound yellowfin tuna. They didn%26#039;t want the larger baits, so we used anchovies on #2 hooks. And yes, those little hooks stood up to a half-hour fight on 30 or 40 pound line (though of course they were the extra-strong hooks).

I would think that matching the hook size to the bait would hold for most forms of fishing.
Reply:Size hooks your looking for is 6 or a size 10 hooks for your fishing days to come o.k.
Reply:little hooks for small fish med for gen fishing large hooks for big fish,
Reply:Not necessarily true... I fish for rainbow trout (steelhead), and salmon with small hooks and bags of roe and it works just fine.
Reply:This link should help ya%26#039; out somewhat (scroll down page) ;)...

http://www.cabelas.com/story-123/ross_ho...
Reply:It really depends on SEVERAL factors...size of the bait being the biggest. I use a range of 5 sizes for bass fishing, it depends on the size of the bait.
Reply:The easy formula without getting technical.

Small fish...small hooks size 4

Medim fish...medium hooks size 8

Large fish...large hooks %26gt;I use a 3/0 Lazer sharp Eagle Claw Hook, I get serious.

'On tenter hooks'?

What does it really mean and where did it come from? And is it %26#039;tender hooks%26#039;?

Always wondered.

Thanks

%26#039;On tenter hooks%26#039;?
It is Tenter Hooks.

The %26#039;Tenter Hooks%26#039; were used to hang cloth out to dry on hillsides after being dyed in the cloth manufacturing process.

There was a lot of agitation when the wind blew through the large lengths of cloth.
Reply:Not sure where it comes from, but it means something akin to %26quot;waiting with bated breath%26quot;. It implies a great sense of anticipation and nervousness.
Reply:It comes from one of the processes of making woollen cloth. After it had been woven, the cloth still contained oil from the fleece, mixed with dirt. It was cleaned in a fulling mill, but then it had to be dried carefully or it would shrink and crease. So the lengths of wet cloth were stretched on wooden frames, and left out in the open for some time. This allowed them to dry and straightened their weave. These frames were the tenters, and the tenter hooks were the metal hooks used to fix the cloth to the frame.
Reply:TENTER hooks

It`s a phrase that stems from the textile trade ,fabric was stretched out and hooked onto pegs to dry. This was called tenter hooking - nowadays machines are used for the same purpose called stenters ,the fabric is run over rollers and pinned out flat and fed through a heated chamber.

How to buy crochet hooks in bulk?

My family is traveling to South America. My sister is a very avid crocheter and wants to take a large number of hooks to give out to child panhandlers in lieu of money so that the children will be able to keep what they are given, and perhaps teach them a few basic stitches.

Does anyone know of a way to get large quantities of plastic crochet hooks for a reasonable price?

How to buy crochet hooks in bulk?
http://www.dickblick.com/zz651/05/

The children will not know what to do with the hooks. If you%26#039;re going to give them something, give them money so they can eat.
Reply:If they are panhandling they probably don%26#039;t have the money to buy yarn or the free time to sit around and teach themselves what to do with the hooks. If she wants to do something that%26#039;s not a complete waste of money then tell her to buy bulk granola or energy bars so they can eat.
Reply:Hi,

Have you considered putting up a flyer that would requests donations of crochet hooks for your cause at church or yarn shops in your area.

I remember seeing inexpensive hooks at Joann%26#039;s last year.

A web site that sell hooks is:

http://herrschners.com/ or http://yarnsale.com/

Good Luck, sounds like a great idea.:)
Reply:Go to micheals or joannes. They sell them in packs or seperae but they are very cheap. I suggest you buy them there and they have many walls of yarn and books too so check that out. Good luck!
Reply:This site has them for $1.20 each. Not sure if that is low enough for you but here ya go.

Edit:

Found another site that has them as low as $0.79. I think that is about as low as your gonna get.

Shower rod / hooks?

next year i will be going off the college. my dorm room has two beds.. and one is in the back of the room and the other is sectioned off behind a little wall (the wall doesn%26#039;t cover the bed its still out in the open its just sectioned off) but i like my privcacy so i want to buy a curtain to put up... but how would i do that? its just like a dormal empty space.. and i want to ahgn up a curtain... can anyone give me specifics on what i could use? i was thinking i could put up on of those expandable shower rods and hang a shower curtain on it ? do those rods stick to walls or no ?

how would i do it with hooks, is that possible ?

Shower rod / hooks?
Most shower curtain rods do unscrew to expand to the width needed. The package can tell you the minimum or maximum width available. A good option to use instead of a shower curtain is a bed sheet. Most have a sewn casing for the top of the sheet. Just open the stitching at the left and right side of the top and put the rod through the opening. It will offer more privacy than a shower curtain and can just be thrown in the wash when dirty.
Reply:The expandable shower rod when you twist it it will get tension on both walls, no glue, nails or screws then put up your curtain with the shower hooks on the rod. They usually only fit 5ft openings.
Reply:use some small hooks, use any bedsheet, take a crochet needle, tie a string to the hook, pass it thru the end of the sheet and tie it to the hooks, works great

Favorit Crochet Hooks?

Favorit Crochet Hooks?
I like the Boye hook point, but I buy Afghan Hooks and cut them off to be 7 1/2 to 8 inches long for crochet hooks, I do not want a flat place in my hooks, so that they can serve the purpose for all stitches [ one stitch at a time or a dozen held on the hook ], I do not like the Susan Bates hook point, lots of others do, and it is every person to his own choice. Hope you find what works for you as I have.
Reply:All of mine are Boye brand.
Reply:I have both Boye and Susan Bates but it%26#039;s not so much the brand but the material it is made from. I find that the metal hooks work better than the others (no comfort grips or fancies)... the rest lies in what is more comfortable for you.

Reply:Put on wax until your have scheduled an appointment with your orthodontist. Make sure you tell your orthodontist to fix your problem. You don%26#039;t want your hooks to tear your cheeks

Mounting hooks on an indoor door?

I have a row of attached hooks I want to mount on my closet door to hang housecoats and whatnot.

Do most doors have some internal bracing that I should be trying to screw into? Are they in standard locations? I can%26#039;t find my stud finder.

As a matter of preference do you think the inside or the outside of the door is better? Why?

Thanks!

Mounting hooks on an indoor door?
I%26#039;ve hung hooks on the inside of closet doors so as not to obstruct the look of the door and to maintain the value. My doors are six panel, colonist styled and thus hollow core. If I am hanging a single hook, I generally screw it into the wood without using mollies or anchors. However, I hung a multi-hooked one on the back of my laundry room door and used anchors. I intended on hanging coats from it which are heavy so the hooks needed extra support. My doors don%26#039;t have studs inside of them, so the mollies were necessary so that the hooks didn%26#039;t fall out in the future. You can purchase anchors in the hardware aisle at the home improvement store. They are usually either metal ones that expand as you screw into them or plastic ones. Either will work, but since my doors are painted white the plastic ones blend into the door color and are less noticeable.

I really hated it when my renters put hooks on the outside of doors because the holes are difficult to repair and never look right. I considered it damage.
Reply:Depends on the door and which direction it swings. If it%26#039;s a solid wood door, aim for the meatiest part. If it%26#039;s hollow core luan with no panels, you%26#039;ll need a molly and you can put it anywhere. Generally doors swing in so you would want to put the hooks on the inside so when the door is open, the what nots are hidden from sight. When the door is closed, they are right there.
Reply:not a good idea 95 percent of your closet doors are hollow nothing to brace to on the inside .So if you hang it it%26#039;ll probrobly fall.
Reply:most interior doors are hollow core doors. the only solid areas are the edges and top and bottom. on the edges there will be no more than 3 inches solid, and top and bottom will have around 4 to 6 inches. if you use a coarse thread screw and be careful not to over tighten the screw when installing the hooks you can hang light things on the hooks like a robe or towel but no more than 2 or 3. the door panel is only and eigth inch thick so more pressure or wieght will most likely rip out the screws and chip the door panel.
Reply:There isn%26#039;t anything you should be trying to hit inside the door so don%26#039;t worry about that. But for me I like things like that to be on the inside, I just like the cleaner look once everything is shut. Hope this helps you out.

I%26#039;ve also included an interesting critical essay of the book which presents some argument relartive to the definitions hooks provides. It%26#039;s an interesting read on several levels.

It expresses some of hooks views in an easy to understand and interesting to read shorter form, and should help inform the longer text.

Good luck and best wishes :-)

In Wrestling (collegiate), after hooking in the double leg hooks, rather than doing the power half, what ...?

In Wrestling (collegiate), after hooking in the double leg hooks, rather than doing the power half, what other move can you do?

I%26#039;m speaking specifically after the double leg hooks. I am afraid to let them sitout because they can wrap their hands under your feet and pull the hooks out, so something after the double hooks which will allow me to go for a pin or do some move, rather than the power half because I always use the power half with the double leg hooks.

In Wrestling (collegiate), after hooking in the double leg hooks, rather than doing the power half, what ...?
If they sit out on you and attempt to take your legs out, give them a mean crossface back down to the mat. I suggest taking one leg out and riding cross body on the guy. This will give you more options. From here you can crossface while he is on his base to a jacobs hook. You can also do a guillotine. This is where you hook his arm with your arm and bring it over your head. You can also do a power half. Once you get the powerhalf about halfway, you can put the second leg in.

If you really want to keep in double leg hooks, I suggest running a power half until the opponent is almost all the way over. From here you sort of run out of leverage and cannot turn him anymore without being in bad position. This is when you take the legs out and just finish like a normal half.

If opponent is keeping his arm tucked in and straight so you cannot run a power half, just grab his wrist between his legs and run a ball and chain. To do this you have to take out the legs. I guess the point is don%26#039;t look at it as riding with double leg hooks, you have to just think of it as riding. Don%26#039;t be afraid to let him take out your legs if it gives you a better move.

Also if he sits out, you can switch your legs from the inside of his legs to the outside of his legs and get into a crab ride situation.

Another thing if he sits out and is fighting out your legs, try to stay under his arms. Keep extending his body out so he cannot reach your legs with his arms. If he manages to get one leg out, continue riding with one leg until you can get the other back in (if thats the only way you feel comfortable).

A common situation if he sits out and you keep the legs in is he will tripod up and your legs will begin to slip out and get closer to his chest. To counter this, throw your hips into him and your head up. While your doing this, chop his arms from the inside out.
Reply:if u get their arm back on their hip u can run a series of different moves that our coach teaches us. 1. stack 2. attempt stack then crossface them and turn them onto their back. 3. attempt the first 2 but they bellyout then u keep the crossface then cradle them. this series works really well.
Reply:Try different tilts. Work the cross-face series. Uh... If they build back to their base try to stack them.

How do you insert hooks into pinch pleat curtains?

I have just bought my first ever pinch pleat curtains, got them home and realised there%26#039;s no tape on the back and I%26#039;ve just been given a bag of pointy hooks. Where do I place the pointy hooks? Do I put them in the middle, back of the pleat? Try to get them up under the stitching? Or just stick them into the top hem between pleats (that doesn%26#039;t seem right, it might tear the curtain fabric)

I%26#039;ve looked it up on the internet and found the advice to have the tops of the hooks line up with the tops of the pleats, then hook them into the curtain rings, which is fine. I can find an article about hooks without points which are sewn into the pleats and pictures of drapery hooks, but my hooks have just one prong, not two. I%26#039;m a bit nervous about shoving the dangerous looking pointy bits in the wrong place! Can anyone help? The shop where I bought them is miles away.

How do you insert hooks into pinch pleat curtains?
Where the pleats come together like a seam there is a way to slide the hooks in there. and they will not get hung on the fabric and rip. The hooks will sort of straddle that seam and go inside the openings/pockets left by the seam coming together.

What type of wall hooks do I need to hold a heavy item on wall ?

I%26#039;m tidying up the garage and I want install some wall hooks so that they will hold and secure 2 really heavy metal folding sunloungers on the garage wall.

Is wall hooks even the correct term for what I need? Give me the tools and I can do the job. However I don%26#039;t know what type of hooks I need... and the only hooks I%26#039;ve found so far seem only suitable for holding something lightweight such as a picture.

The hooks I%26#039;d need would sort of need to extend quite some distance outwards, so that the metal frame of the sunlounger can fit on each hook. I%26#039;m thinking like 3 metal hooks for each sunlounger. Any idea of where to find suitable wall hooks for heavy items?

Atm these stupid sunloungers take up too much space on floor of garage. She bought them for sunbathing in the garden. The number of arguments I%26#039;ve had with her for buying them behind my back in the first place........ too expensive and heavy and they take up loads of space when just on garage floor.

(rant over)

Thanks.

What type of wall hooks do I need to hold a heavy item on wall ?
Go with Gizmo on this, except you will more likely need 8 or 10mm wall plugs, as the screw threads are quite large on the hooks I%26#039;m thinking of!

Reply:Go to B%26amp;Q they do packs of hooks for garage tidy up just what you need. Ask for heavy duty hooks for hanging up ladders and the like. You will also need a 6mm masonary drill and rawlplugs while your at it to mount the hooks.
Reply:You need to search for hooks rated for the weight of what you are hanging and make sure that you hang it in a wall stud or it will pull out of the wall.
Reply:Head over to a discount store like WalMart or KMart.

In the tools section, you%26#039;ll find large threaded hooks with red rubber coating over the hook part.

Screw the threaded end into a stud in the garage wall, and you%26#039;re good to go.
Reply:Why dont you do what we did in our garage to hold the ladder. Just put up a couple of shelf brackets, the sort that are L shaped. They will sit nicely on those.
Reply:No Problem, Most DIY stores, or even £1 shops carry the kind of thing you meen. They%26#039;re extended hooks up to even 6inches long. Should you not be able to screw them into wood, you may need to %26#039;plug%26#039; the wall for a good fixing.

Good luck
Reply:Hi,

Not much experience of this lol, but i know that my dad uses a pair of right angle, steel, screw on shelf brackets to hold up a pair of big ladders in the garage back home. They%26#039;re usually used for heavy duty shelves (e.g. in garages/workshops) but work just as well as hooks. obtainable from any hardware shop, then screw them to the wall and slot the loungers though. Seems to work for my dad, none of the vast array of junk has fallen on his treasured MGB-GT!
Reply:Go to Lowe%26#039;s web site and look at the Gladiator products. It is more expensive than buying hooks, but does a nice job.
Reply:You can buy hooks that are up to 6-8 inches Long after the threaded screw bit, They can be a standard rounded hook or a squared off type. Just drill and plug the walls with decent size and quality plugs and they screw in the same as the smaller ones do. You can get them in most DIY stores and Ive even seen them in the Aldi. We used them to hoist a roof box high up in our garage when it was not in use, along with 2 bikes, the lawnmower, leaf blower, bla bla bla. Go ahead...... reclaim your floorspace. ;-)

Hooks?????/?

What different hooks are used, and what size? I fish for panfish and bass. What hooks do you use to make plastics %26quot;weedless%26quot; how large and small of hooks are used? When do you use treble hooks? Any other info will be great!

Hooks?????/?
For bass fishing using plastic worms I would suggest using Tru Turn hooks. The shafts are bent allowing you to insert the hook into the worm, make it weedless (by keeping the hook point inside the worm), and still it gives you the opportunity for a quick and successful set of the hook. The size of the hook will depend on the length of the worm you are using. You can look at the hook size and see what will work for you. Fishing for bass, especially largemouth bass, it is almost impossible to get a Tru Turn hook too large to fit in the mouth of the bass.

Reply:Fishsteelhead has given you a good link to hooks and the rough types and sizes, personally i think you cant beat a mustad hook, they have never let me down.
Reply:I fish the salt surf, and use an 8/0 circle hook exclusively for bait fishing. (Clams). When fishing lures, I remove the trebble and replace it with a %26quot;J%26quot; hook. Too much trouble removing the treble. Besides, if you are going to release the fish, you don%26#039;t want to hurt it. Got a 35 lb striped bass last year on the clam bait. 45 inches long. New Jersey rod and reel record from shore is 78 inches. Yes, I did eat the fish!

Lots of Luck! Tight lines!
Reply:R W- great answer. Eagle claw makes very good hooks and they are the only hooks made in the USA. That is enough reason not to buy any other brand.

Reply:Great Question. I use small hooks for small worms and larger hooks for larger worms, for example.

With a four inch worm I would use a #4 or #2 wire hook depending on the thickness of the worm. Six to eight lb line.

A six inch worm I would use a 1/0 wire hook. Six to eight pound line.

Eight inch worm or a thicker creature bait like a brush hog I will use a 3/0 to 4/0 wire hook . Eight to twelve pound line.

Now with heavy line like 20 lb test, I use 3/0 to 5/0 heavy thick hooks. This will keep your hook from straighten up while fighting the fish in heavy cover.

With pan fish and bass keep your hooks as small as possible so your lure will look as real as possible.

Mustad hooks are inexpensive compared to owner and gamo brand names.Always keep your hook sharp and you will catch more fish.

Good luck
