How do I remove adhesive hooks from the walls without ripping off the paint?

The previous owner here used cheap adhesive hooks and I want to remove them and put up 3M Command hooks that are designed not to damage the paintwork - but how do I get the old ones off without taking the paint with them?

Hold an ice cube on them. When they get cold, they will come off easy.
Reply:Many adhesives are moisture activated so applying a little water can help. Heat is another way, but depending on your paint job it can ruin the walls. Also, if you know what kind of adhesive it is, reapplying it or a similar adhesive can loosen it up. Nailpollish and alchohol can also be used, but they also have a high likely hood of causeing discoloration.
Reply:Steam works good.

Then again it depends on the quality of the paint that was used and how it was applied,

Figure it this way, the paint is going to come off, do the best that you can to minimize that until you are ready to re-paint.
Reply:Try a little bit of WD40. You will be pleasantly surprised.
Reply:just pull em off an do the painting again. .simple as that
Reply:a blow dryer
